Wild Bus Trip Nearly Does Our Heads In!

It was very cold when we got up at 6am one day and rolled sleepily into our little Echo, hardly stopping to shower, eat, play on the computer and clean the chook house first. We drove into Mount Barker and hid it under a bush for the day so as not to get a parking ticket, and walked to the Bus Depot to catch the 8:30 to Adelaide - for we were about to indulge in a tour of the Adelaide Town Hall, and it was imperative that we were not late; Tony the Princess said so.
While waiting for the bus, Tony had a few practice shots at waving his Seniors Card at the mysterious ticket machine on the bus.  It always makes him nervous, fearing he’ll get it wrong and the machine will make rude noises and say nasty things to him, in a grating electronic voice, and embarrass him in front of all the other passengers, of which there were none.

A bus arrived, but it had the wrong number on it, so we studiously ignored it, until the driver called out, asking if we were going to town.  We said yes, but what’s it got to do with you and your local Mt Barker bus?  He said it’s the right bus, but he couldn’t be bothered to change the number, just get in.  Somewhat warily, we did. It was a very long bus, with an accordion in the middle and more bus on the end, making it even longer.  We sat down but soon discovered that they’re making bus seats too small these days, and Linda kept accidentally shoving Tony onto the floor.  So we moved all the way to the back, stopping for refreshments along the way, so we could be comfy on the really wide seat, and watch the front of the bus going around corners 10 minutes before we got there.  That was fine until the bus started weaving through the winding pot-holed roads of the hills, throwing us all over the place and nearly bouncing us off the ceiling. They should provide sick bags back there.

We survived the journey though, and on the way a couple of boys got on the bus with skateboards.  It was school holidays, thank goodness, or the bus would have been full of ranting teenagers in absurd school uniforms. Anyway, one of the boys wore a most intriguing hat over his amazing hair, and he was only too happy to have us take his picture.
Then out the window we had our first look at the new double decker bus that we would have liked to ride instead, but it goes at the wrong time. Pity they had no colour sense. When we hit the freeway, we got bored and started taking selfies.  Our noses kept getting in the way, and Linda couldn’t stop laughing, but we got one reasonable shot (see 'About Us') and a cheer from the skateboard boys.
