A strong cold front swept through much of Australia
in July, bringing a rare dollop of snow to some parts of the Adelaide Hills –
but not to Winsome Ridge, and we can tell you, we’re darned angry about
that. We’re absolutely pining to see
some snow – so much so that we might even consider watching ‘White Christmas’
again and sitting through all those sappy songs just to get to the snowy bit at
the end. Meanwhile, a whole gang of Adelaidians
who’ve never seen snow before rushed to the top of Mt Lofty when they heard
reports of something white falling from the sky there. "It's like ice, but fluffy!", roving reporter Cynthia Bodice exclaimed, even though she was off duty.
They seemed to be thrilled with the miserable little
showing of flakes, and some of them even managed to run around, viciously
elbowing other people aside, catching enough flakes to almost make a snowball. We, who hail from the northern hemisphere,
would like to tell them they ain’t seen nothin’, but why upset the kiddies?
The seriously cold weather has had our air
conditioner doing the full tilt boogie for some time now, and we’re dreading
the next electricity bill. Still, it’s
better than spending all day enmeshed in PJs, jumpers, track suits, multiple
socks and old blankets – and the lucky one got the cat as well. But Tony still does it anyway.
